LAMA2-RD support brochure launched for families facing a diagnosis

The Voor Sara Foundation has released a specially designed brochure to support families who have just received a LAMA2-RD diagnosis for their child. This comprehensive guide was created to help parents and caregivers navigate the emotional and practical challenges in the first months after diagnosis, offering reassurance, information, and real-world guidance.

Receiving a LAMA2-Related Muscular Dystrophy (LAMA2-RD) diagnosis can be overwhelming. Many families experience shock, uncertainty, and questions about what comes next. The new brochure aims to provide clarity and support right at this critical moment. Combining expert knowledge, family experience, and practical advice in one accessible resource.

The brochure was developed as a collaborative initiative between Voor Sara and the Honours group of Maastricht University, under the guidance of Professor Bert Smeets (Maastricht University) and Bram Verbrugge (Stichting Voor Sara / LAMA2 Europe). It includes insights from families and healthcare professionals, helping readers understand LAMA2-RD, its symptoms, diagnostic process, care strategies, and how to manage day-to-day life with the condition.

Empathetic and supportive

Families who have shared their stories are featured throughout the brochure, ensuring that the real experiences of those living with LAMA2-RD are reflected and validated. This makes the guide not just informative, but also empathetic and supportive.

The brochure answers key questions parents often ask after diagnosis, such as “What is LAMA2-RD?”, “How can I support my child?” and “What resources are available?” — so that families feel better equipped and less alone as they begin their journey.

This new resource reflects Voor Sara’s ongoing commitment to supporting families, improving knowledge, and strengthening the global LAMA2 community. The brochure can be ordered via voorsara.nl/brochure and is a valuable first step for families seeking reliable information and support at a difficult time.
