Will I have access to experimental treatments outside a trial?
In most cases, experimental treatments are only available within an approved clinical trial. This is mainly for reasons of safety and ethics: clinical trials are carefully designed and closely monitored to protect patients, and they follow strict ethical rules to make sure any risks are managed responsibly and that participants are fully informed.
In some circumstances, compassionate use programmes may allow access outside trials, usually for people with serious conditions and limited options. Whether this is possible depends on the country, the treatment, and each person’s individual situation. Your specialist is the best person to advise on what options exist for you and whether they are safe and appropriate in your case.
