What happens after a clinical trial ends?

Researchers and doctors analyse the results and publish their findings. If the investigated treatment shows sufficient safety and effectiveness, the company or research centre may apply to perform additional clinical trials required to progress towards regulatory approval. Participants may be offered follow-up or continued access through an extension study. The research team would inform participants about next steps.
