Is LAMA2-RD inherited?
Yes. LAMA2-RD is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern, meaning a child needs to inherit two copies of the mutated LAMA2 gene (one from each parent) to develop the condition. Each parent is usually a healthy ‘carrier’ of the LAMA2 mutation (they carry only one mutated copy of the gene from one of their own parents, not two mutated copies, and so they do not have symptoms). Healthy parent carriers often do not know they carry one copy of the mutated gene.
